This image was selected as our holiday card for 2009. It is a portion of AraNet, a gene association network built from over 50 million data points of functional genomics data from the experimental mustard plant Arabidopsis. Each line represents a functional link between two genes and the color indicates the strength of the link using a red-blue heat map scheme. It was submitted by Sue Rhee, Insuk Lee and Michael Ahn from the Department of Plant Biology. The image includes about 100,000 functional links made among about 10,000 Arabidopsis genes. Carnegie scientists are working towards discovering functions of uncharacterized genes and processes in Arabidopsis using AraNet.
